BC Website

Before I arrived at Boston College my friend and I were looking through the directory search area of the BC website. This is such an interesting part of the website. It is a student’s personal phonebook directory. Typing in a random last name and seeing whose face and address is pulled up is quite a fun thing to do, especially if you have nothing else to do.

When I typed my own last name, Durkin, in the search box and it found two or three other people with the same last name as me I was amazed. I am the only male Durkin registered in the directory account. There are three females with whom I share the last name. One girl, Erin, is in my class, ’07, one is a senior and the other lady lives in Lowell. It is odd to wonder if they have searched for “Durkin” and ever seen my face on the directory. I bet they have.

This function of the website is truly something else. It reminds me of the use of cell phones. The technological advances today are amazing. We have the ability to learn the face of some one, the name, the phone number, the address, without even actually
