For my Boston sighting, I have chosen my favorite place in Boston, Fenway Park. A week ago, I visited Fenway Park and watched one of the most exciting games of my lifetime. It was Game 4 of the ALDS, Red Sox vs. Athletics, and the game came down to the wire. The Red Sox pulled it out in the eighth inning with a dramatic two-run double by David Ortiz. But the atmosphere in and around Fenway Park is unmatched, especially in a playoff game. Getting off of the T at Kenmore and walking across the bridge over the Mass Pike, you can feel the intensity growing. There are ticket scalpers, street vendors, die-hard fans, and bars galore. Red Sox fans are unlike any other fans in the country, as they never give up on their team, and will mill around the park, regardless of whether they have tickets or not. "Yankees Suck!" cheers are commonplace to erupt in any place and at any time, and your protection cannot be garaunteed if you dare sport Yankees attire. Once you enter Fenway, the intensity is palpable. As game time nears, fans are rearing to root on their beloved Red Sox, and jeer the opposing team. Every called strike is a boo, every ball is a cheer. Every fan will lap to their feet on even the most routine single, and will nearly jump out of the stadium when their beloved Red Sox take the lead. A tradition at Fenway is that every time there is two strikes on an opposing batter, the entire stadium will rise and cheer on the pitcher, hoping to boost his adrenaline and spark a strikeout. As the game nears its end, the crowd is absolutely bezerk with every pitch, and reactions to both favorable and unfavorable occurrences are exaggerated beyond belief. When Ortiz smacked that two-run double to put the Red Sox ahead, I had goose-bumps all over my body because of the electricity in the air. Chanting "M-V-P" was an amazing thrill, and my voice was hoarse for atleast a few days after the game. Leaving the stadium is a thrill in itself. Many anebriated and enthusiastic fans will lead chants of all kinds, and any two people will slap five, as long as you preface it with the customary "Go Red Sox!" Overall Fenway Park is an atmosphere that cannot be described but must be experienced. It is electric and joyous, but beware, Yankees fans are not welcome.
