As I drove into the city of Boston on a warm beautiful afternoon I saw the skyline of Boston against the cloudless blue sky. The skyscrapers really stood out and showed the beauty of the city. My destination was the Wang theatre and the area around it. When I got there I was surrounded by many different theatres and tall buildings, but then music caught my attention from down the street so I walked toward it. I walked by the tall dark building and down the treeless street until I reached a place that was greener than anything I had ever seen. Going from an area with tall buildings everywhere and a ton of cars driving around, to a beautiful area where there is just green in less than a minute was just surprising.
I was now at the Boston common, and this area caught my attention more than the theatre area. I was introduced to a new smell in the air, which wasn’t the smell of smoke and smog I smelt before. It was a sweet smell of fresh air, trees and flowers. In the middle of the park is this circular structure made of stone with these white pillars that were attached to hold up its circular roof. It caught my attention, so I walked toward it and climbed up the stairs, and I was able to see all around me. In one direction there was the state capital building with its gold dome roof shining in the bright sun. In another direction you can see a tall green statue of a woman, which honors all the men in Boston that died in war, which stands out against the orange tree below it. There are balloons in another direction with tons of people for a 10k walk at Tufts. I can hear all the people cheering and laughing from where I’m standing.
All around me children are playing, people are relaxing, wild animals were free to do what ever they wanted, and everyone was happy. It is a wonderful place to sit and relax and really enjoy your surroundings. The beautiful foliage leaves every tree with its own color and style. The squirrels run around everywhere looking for acorns so they can be prepared for the long cold winter. I have never been close to a squirrel before because whenever I got at least 10 feet away they would run away. As I sat on a bench writing this squirrel came a few inches away from me and just stared at me with his big black round eyes with an acorn in his mouth. He sat next to me for a good 45 seconds like he was waiting for something. When the walkway was clear of people the squirrel walked along the walkway and climbed up his tree. I found it interesting that the squirrel would think to wait for it to be clear so he could safely make it home.
I walked back through the park and saw everyone doing what ever they wanted. The common is a place where you can relax, play baseball, throw a Frisbee, have a picnic, write, or just look at the city around you. It is a great place to just sit and really enjoy yourself, and helps you understand and see where we are living.
